Griffith Observatory is a great place to get a view of Los Angeles. Open Wednesday through Sunday, admission to the building (including the cool space museum) and grounds is free (parking is too). Once a month, the Griffith Observatory hosts a Public Star Party where the whole family can get a chance to look through telescopes and look at various celestial objects.
